As a guitarist, writer, arranger and programmer Clive has featured on many dance tracks during the past decade. He was a founder member and leader of Karmastry, an instrumental dance fusion band. a DJ playing his favorite mix of Jazz to Soul / Funk and Disco, and he was the producer of Jazz Singer/Radio Show presenter Gill Manly’s debut CD “Detour Ahead”.
Clive has a rich and unconventional background for a Jazz Singer. He has been a guitarist, playing for Roy Ayers at Ronnie Scott’s for 4 consecutive years, plus dates in New York and Europe;
‘...in fact my first experience with Roy Ayers was when he called me up on stage to sing the lyrics I had written to his track "Mystic Voyage".’
His wide influences reflect a life in and around music; spanning Mark Murphy, Mel Tormé and Miles Davis, through George Benson to Luther Vandross, Al Jarreau, Kurt Elling and Stevie Wonder. Whilst being a seasoned musician he is a compelling vocalist, possessing a powerful voice with control and emotional depth.
“It is only recently that I have begun to sing standards - In my performances I strive to give jazz standards a more contemporary sound and conversely give the modern songs I love a jazz treatment.”
He performs regularly in London at Caffé Concerto and has performed at venues such as The Vortex and The Spice of Life.
